Holiday pay

When you work in Denmark for a Danish employer, you are automatically entitled to a holiday payment. The holiday payment you earned during a calendar year can be paid out when you take your vacation next year. Holidays in Denmark are counted from May 1. after the employment until April 30 of the following year.

If you did not receive your accumulated vacation money because you left Denmark permanently before the start of the year, you can apply for holiday money back to the Holiday Fund (FerieKonto / Feriepenge).

Due to the accumulated vacation repayment, you can apply within 3 years.

You will receive a letter in March about your holiday in Denmark. which will indicate:

  • Vacation amount
  • Number of holiday days
  • Workplaces paid for holiday pay.

To recover the accumulated vacation you need:

  • Vacation amount
  • Number of holiday days
  • Workplaces paid for holiday pay
  • Feriekonto / Feriepenge certificate (if you have one)
